Abstract
In Norway estimates show that some 200,000 to 250,000 tons of particles, mostly asphalt, are formed each year by wear of the top road pavements due to the extensive use of studded tyres during the winterseason. During summer the dustfall ascribed the wear on road surfaces is 3 - 4 g/nf 30 days. There is an increase in dustfall during winterseason by a factor 2-4 depending on AADT. The increase in dustfall during winterseason is mainly due to an increase in mineral content and mean particle size of the airborne dust. High concentrations of PMio occure on days/periods with much dustfall. 1 INTRODUCTION In Norway estimates (Table 1) show that some 200,000 to 250,000 tons of particles, mostly asphalt, are formed each year by wear of the top road pavements due to the extensive use of studd
