Abstract

At regional scales (mesoscale), sea breeze circulations are key dynamic fea- ture for processing emissions from coastal (urban and industrial) as well as from inland (rural) areas. The role of moving sea breeze fronts on air quality over coastal and inland polluted areas is investigated through numerical simulation of the trans- port/chemistry of air pollutants, using detailed structures of eddy diffusiv- ity, temperature and flow fields associated with such fronts. Our interest lies in the study of air pollution in the region of Sfax, an in- dustrial town at the Mediterranean shores of Tunisia. We report sensitivity studies of the impact of sea breeze fronts on the trans- port and diffusion of the atmospheric gaseous tracers emit
