Abstract
The Antwerp industrial area has among its industries 5 major oil refineries which have, according to the environmental legislation, to install ambient air quality monitors for SC>2 and NO% If the average ground-level concentrations over the last 24 hours measured in one of these monitoring sites exceeds 300 ^igSC^/m^ or 1 50 (igNOx/m-S, they have to reduce their emissions. The number and siting of these ambient monitoring stations is not specified in the environmental legislation.
