Abstract
. The following paper is describing development and operation of a novel remote sensing system for range resolved monitoring of tropospheric wind fields. This system has been developed by Kayser-Threde GmbH in cooperation with DLR Institute of Optoelectronics is described. The system employs a heterodyne detection scheme and is based on diode-pumped TmrYAG lasers, operating in master-slave configuration with 2.7 mJ output pulse energy (SLM) near 2 Jim wavelength and a pulse repetition frequency of 100 Hz. Field measurements, including an intercomparison campaign with a balloon tracked by radar, are presented. 1 Introduction Accurate monitoring of the low altitude wind field is of major importance for a number of scientific and technological areas.
