Abstract
A new measurement database for heavy metals, which include approximately 70 stations in Europe has been recently compiled at the Norwegian Institute for Air Research NILU. Annual concentrations of heavy metals in air and precipitation, in this database, cover the nine-year period: 1987 - 1995. The NILU data set was used to validate the latest version of the Heavy Metals Eulerian Transport (HMET) model developed at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute in Oslo. The HMET model includes two vertical layers, one below the mixing height and one above and usies the EMEP grid system (39 x 37 nodes, 150 x 150 km mesh size) for computing concentra- tions and depositions of five metals: As, Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn.
