Abstract
The mathematical model SWBACROS (Simulation of the Water Balance of a CROpped Soil) is used to compute the water balance and to model the irrigation schedule of a cotton crop in the area of Thessaloniki, Greece. The model is based on the numerical solution of the partial dif- ferential equation which describes the unsaturated transient water flow in a cultivated heterogeneous soil. The equation is solved by the Douglas- Jones predictor-corrector method. The required data were collected dur- ing the growing season of 1994.
