Abstract
Trickle irrigation is an excellent alternative in regions with semi-arid climate. However, in developing countries where the material costs are high in comparison with labour costs, trickle irrigation systems tend to be costly and thus are generally overlooked. The design of these systems is essentially based on the principles of design of the sub-units containing the secondary and tertiary pipe lines. The methodology commonly used is based on the criteria developed by Keller and Karmeli (1975). This paper deals with a reassessment of the above method and attempts to provide criteria for a more economical and hydraulically efficient system.
