Abstract
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons have been analysed in airborne paniculate matter collected at three locations in the area of Thessaloniki, N. Greece. Concentration profiles of the 16 EPA PAHs were obtained for fine (d < 2.5 ^m) and coarse (2.5 < d < 10 ^m) participates from the city centre, as well as for total suspended particles (TSP) from two residential communities at the interface with the industrial area. Profiles of PAHs did not appear to differ significantly from site-to-site or between seasons. The source identification attempted showed that motor vehicle traffic is important for the city centre throughout the year, whereas oil combustion for resident
