Abstract

The efficiency of a submerged breakwater has to be related to its ability to attenuate energy trasmission. This ability is linked to the geometric characteristics of the structure referred to the incoming wave characteristics and can be expressed through the transmission coefficient written as the rate between the transmitted and the incoming wave energy fluxes. Together with the energy dissipation, the submerged breakwaters produce an energy reflection seawards of them and a raising of the set-up in the surf-zone which have to be considered in the design of this kind of structures. 1. Introduction There are no doubts about the efficiency of submerged barriers regarding their double action of sediment control and attenuation of wave motion. However the way to quantify the action of the barrier, in such
