Abstract
Poole Harbour on the south coast of England is in frequent use both as a commercial port and for leisure activities. Within the Harbour is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and other areas of environmental significance. Any proposed developments in the Harbour will therefore need to be evaluated both for their impact on the existing commercial and leisure facilities and their effect on the environment. Hydraulic models provide an effective means for evaluating some of these effects and their application to the Town Quay Boat Haven development is described in this paper. The modelling carried out for Poole provides a good illustration of the use of hydraulic models in Environmental Impact Assessment (ElA). The techniques used are generally applicable to this type of assessment for harbour and mar
