Abstract
A numerical model has been applied to predict the tide induced circulation and flushing characteristics in narrow entranced rectangular harbours with large aspect ratios. Emphasis has been focused on the treatment of the advective - momenta terms and the closed boundary conditions. Three different forms of closed boundary have been considered, including: no-slip, semi-slip and partial- slip. The predicted tide induced circulation patterns were very different for the three boundary conditions, with the results showing that the representation of the closed boundary is crucial for accurate modelling of such basins. The model results have been compared directly with scaled hydraulic model measurements and with the partial slip boundary condition most accurately replicating the measure
