Abstract
We are developing a protection system to eradicate the accidents related to maintenance work. This system consists of a mobile terminal carried by each worker, a portable cab terminal temporally installed in the cab of a maintenance car, a connector attached to the existing signal system and a central administrative device installed at the control center. The mobile terminal, the cab terminal and the connector autonomously send their status information such as their position detected by the Global Positioning System (GPS) and their operational conditions and selectively receive necessary information. The central administrative device grasps the status of all devices and broadcasts track occupancy monitor information.
