Abstract
Assessment and modelling of supervisory control and data acquisition systems in a railway environment G. Digby, P.B.K. Yap*, M. Smith* & P. Burnham* " University College of Swansea, Singleton Park, Swansea, London Underground Limited, 55 Broadway, London, SW1H OBD, UK ABSTRACT At CompRail 1992, Mr P. Burnham presented a paper entitled "Forward to the Past: Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition for London Underground's Power Network" [1]. The paper discussed the possible configurations for a SCAD A system in a railway environment. The paper described the advantages and disadvantages of the various configurations in a qualitative manner. This new paper describes further work that has been performed to assess the existing and proposed SCADA system designs in a quantitative manner. The systems design are modelled using a communication network simulation package. Results showing the speed of system response are presented. The railway operating environment puts
