Abstract
: This paper is intended to discuss an open architecture approach for Train Control Centers, focusing its benefits and impacts on existing systems and how to achieve an orderly and smooth transition without disrupting operations currently in use. Migration from a conventional system to advanced Control Centers and the strategic rules for phase over planning are discussed. Two real applications in course are also presented, showing the open architecture approach and the implementation plan for modernization of the existing system for a Sao Paulo Commuter Authority, and the Control Center for the Brazilia Metro Authority.
