Abstract

Analytical solutions for the acoustic insulation provided by multi-layer systems L. Godinho, A. Tadeu & J. Antonio Department of Civil Engineering University of Coimbra, Portugal Abstract Elastic panels made of more than one layer are frequently used as a practical solution to increase the acoustic insulation of walls and ceilings. In most cases, the propagation of sound waves across these systems is analyzed using simplified approaches that disregard some of the wave propagation phenomena involved. This work describes an analytical model that enables such multi-layered systems to be studied. The model allows panels to be simulated with differing numbers of layers and bounded by two fluid media. The solutions are computed for sinusoidal line loads acting in the fluid on either side of the panels, and are expressed as a summation of the effects of plane waves with different inclinations, taking into account the adequate boundary conditions. This procedure allows the presence of the multiple lay
