Abstract
An idea of the propulsion system and the pusher aft shape of a shallow water barge train J. Kulczyk, T. Tabaczek & R. Werszko Institute of Machines Design and Operation, Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland Abstract One of the fundamental problems when designing shallow water pushed barge trains or motorised barges is to adopt a propelling system which is able to produce sufficient thrust to provide the assumed travelling speed and manoeuvrability. The conventional solutions do not give satisfactory results, mostly because of the propeller diameter being too small, which is limited by small draft. In this report, a few innovative solutions of the propulsion system linked with original shapes of the aft section of a shallow water train pusher were presented and discussed. Individual solutions were numerically verified with respect to the expected tractive effort using the HPSDK calculation system developed at the Wroclaw University of Technology. 1 Introduction Inland vessels operated on s
