Abstract
Power electronic circuits simulator for railways applications R. Kadhim", J. AlW & B. Mellitt" SW1H OBD, UK Introduction This simulation study was motivated by the need for a tool that can be applied to general power electronic circuits with arbitrary configurations. In an increasing trend toward the introduction of extensive power electronics based subsystems within the railway industry the use of such tools is inevitable. Commercial packages are available for such studies, but often limitations in the modelling is experienced. A key issue in developing this package is the ability and freedom of modelling specialised components having certain characteristics. This is often the case in tackling engineering problems where dedicated and specialised systems are in use on railways. In essence, time domain simulation methods on a digital computer have been used with an open capability to model arbitrary configurations and certain components according to specia
