Abstract
There is a possibility of reducing redundancy in a large-scale system, such as a railway system, by means of integration of subsystems. When the necessary redundancy is reduced, it means that the system has now got extra capability for service improvement. In this paper the authors first show the possibility of redundancy reduction by a simulation result, and then formulate the problem as optimal running pattern problem of group of trains, and show that there is an algorithm to solve the problem. 1 INTRODUCTION Generally, there are various kinds of redundancy (margin) in various part of a large system. Whereas margin is necessary to maintain reliability of the system, taking too much of them make the system larger, more expensive and less
