Abstract
In this study, a new algorithm to optimize control forces based on pole assignment method is outlined. To find the best location of controlled poles, exterior penalty function method is used. In this method, controlled damping is assumed to be a function of original damping, and constraints are maximum displacements and accelerations. The exterior penalty function is assumed to be sum of the square of bounded functions. To consider the importance of individual constraints and bounded functions, a weighting factor is applied at necessary location. By this procedure the behavior of structures for each next time step is predicted based on comparing the location of poles at two consecutive time intervals. Significant improvement has been made in speed of calculations and optimum control forces. It is shown the method is effective for any controllable systems. In additional work, location of controllers is investigated to achieve the best result. The feasibility of the method is demonstrated by an example of a framed structure.
