Abstract
The reinforced and prestressed concrete structures subjected to repeated dynamic loads suffer from fatigue damages. The railway bridges are typical representatives of such high performance structures. They absorb several millions of load cycles during their life (about 100 years). The investigation of this problem has brought the knowledge about the behaviour of bridges and the rules for their economic design. The right detailing contributes to the improvement of the dynamic and fatigue behaviour o f structures.
