Abstract
This paper presents a computational approach to calculate the contribution of the irregularly shaped fibers into the transverse elastic moduli of unidirectional composites. The fibers are treated as two-dimensional elastic inclusions under plane strain conditions. In tie proposed approach, the inclusion compliance contribution tensor is constructed using the numerical conformal mapping (NCM) technique, and then used in the analytical micromechanical procedure to predict the effective moduli of the composite. Application of this procedure to the regularly-shaped inclusions produces results that are in good correspondence with analytical predictions.
