Abstract
Seismic design of R/C frames: an assessment of the behaviour factor E. Vaseva Central Laboratory for Seismic Mechanics and Earthquake Engineering - Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia, Bulgaria Abstract The purpose of this paper is to answer the main questions concerning the estimation of the behaviour factors of RC frames, as well as to show the connection between the behaviour factor q in ECS and response coefficient R used in Bulgarian seismic code BGSC. In this paper the procedure for the evaluation of the behaviour factor is presented and special attention is given on the nonlinear dynamic analysis approach. 1 Introduction To avoid explicit nonlinear structural analysis in design, the basic principle of ECS is taken into account by performing a linear analysis based on a reduced response spectrum, called for shortly "design spectrum". This reduction is accomplished taking into account the influence of soil conditions and introducing the behavior factor q
