Abstract
Witnessing the growing interest on limit state design techniques, now generally termed as performance based techniques, a direct displacement based design (DBD) methodology is presented in order to confront its applicability towards classic force-based approaches. As conversion of Eurocode 8 (ECS) [1] into a full Euronorm approaches, it becomes important to confront structural behaviour of reinforced concrete frame buildings based on this new code towards actual Portuguese codes (REBAP and RSA) [2] [3] based ones. Two example structures were designed according to different seismic design approaches being their structural behaviour assessed through non-linear dynamic analyses. Results are discussed, reflecting the advantages and drawbacks of the considered methods. 1 Introduction Seismic design principles have been subjected to reassessment t
