Abstract
A comparison of nonlinear models for reinforced concrete frames N. R. Rubiano* & J. M. Roessef ' Ingetec S.A.-Ingenieros Consultores, Colombia * Department of Civil Engineering, Texas A&M University, USA. Abstract Much of the work conducted in the past to predict building damage during earthquakes, had relied on the consideration of simple inelastic one-degree-of- freedom systems to predict the nonlinear response of actual structures. A number of different nonlinear formulations for complete plane frames have been available since the 1960's, but, unfortunately, they have not been thoroughly validated comparing their predictions with experimental data. In this paper, several nonlinear analysis models for frames are reviewed. Two computer programs for nonlinear dynamic analysis of plane frames, DRAIN-2DX and IDARC2D, are used to predict the response of a frame building. Their predictions are compared among themselves, to those of a fiber model implemented by the authors,
