Costa Istituto di Scienza delle Costruzioni, Universitd di Catania, Italy Abstract The paper focused on a new hysteretical device for seismic protection of the bridge structure. The peculiar characteristic of the device consists in both its shape and in the main dissipating element derived from the cutting of a commercial profile. The paper reports step by step the theoretical approach used for the designing of the device and some results obtained from the test carried out on a single dissipating element. 1 Introduction The seismic retrofitting of bridge structure sometimes requires the use of special elements capable of absorbing and dissipating the energy transmitted by seismic events.
