Abstract
Stochastic seismic induced effects in dam- reservoir systems M. Di Paola & M. Zingales Dipartimento di Ingegneria Strutturale e Geotecnica University of Palermo, Italy Abstract Hydrodynamic seismic induced pressure requires careful considerations in aseismic design of dams. Effects induced by earthquake excitation may cause many-folds increments of hydrostatic pressure. In this study earthquake acceleration will be modeled by means of random process theory obtaining the response statistics of dam-reservoir dynamical system. The analysis has been performed assuming rigid retaining wall anddissipative fluid. A new method of solution will be introduced providing closed-form expressions of pressure waves scattering by means of modal synthesis. Seismic acceleration applied to the rigid wall resulting into non-homogenous boundary condition will be incorporated into the differential equation governing hydrodynamic pressure waves scattering.
