Abstract
The collision of a bore with a structure generates hydrodynamic forces, whose knowledge is crucial in the rational design of transversal structures. The experimental investigation of a dam-break surge advancing over a dry bed and striking a wall is new in literature. At the very beginning of the col- lision process, the upward motion forming at the wall is of the flip-through type. Air entrainment in the bore toe is well developed. A poor repeatabil- ity for pressure measurements was detected in the present experiments due to the evolution of the ever-breaking front rushing downstream. Impact forces have been scaled by the horizontal steady wall force. A classification "SW-CP" is proposed which is useful to label the experimental impacts. Several physical quantities of interest have been collected in the experimen- tal da
