Abstract
The Flemish Environment Agency's report 'MIRA-S 2000' indicates how the quality of the environment might develop in time and which policy interventions may improve it. Three scenarios for the period 2000-2010 are defined: the BAU scenario (business as usual), BAU+ and the BSD scenario (environmentally sustainable development). The assessment of noise pollution in this report is based on 3 indicators: the percentage of the population in Flanders exposed to road traffic day time equivalent noise levels over 65 dB(A), the number of people exposed to aircraft noise (Ldn>60 dB(A)) near Brussels-National airport, and the percentage of the population potentially highly annoyed by noise. The reduced sound emission of individual veh
