Abstract
Increasingly, local air quality around airports becomes an issue of urban air quality management. In some European countries there is already an obligation for the local authorities and airport operators to monitor and control air pollutant components, focusing on NOx and VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). The European Union has been and still is supporting research activities in the field of air traffic emission modelling. This presentation will give a brief summary of the most relevant recent European developments and inventory tools to estimate emissions from civil aviation in general and around airports specifically. Finally two methodologies and inventory tools will be presented in more detail how the results from the research projects can be applied for a specific airport.
