Abstract
The environmental benefits offered by fuzzy logic for controlling real signalized intersections have been discussed in this paper. The basic principle of fuzzy signal control is to model the control based on human expert knowledge, rather than modeling of the process itself. The design of a fuzzy controller for this system requires the expert knowledge and experience of traffic control in formulating the linguistic protocol, which generates the control input, to be applied to the traffic control system. The first hardware installation was done in June, 1998. The fuzzy signal controller (FSC) has worked all the time without problems. Some fine-tunings were made twice concerning the traffic model in the first time and the extension sensitivity in the second time. The received feedback has bee
