Abstract
The technology applied when generating the electricity used for electrical vehicle (EV) operations (i.e. battery charging) is decisive for studies of the Environmental Performance (EP) of these vehicles. Therefore, when electricity is supplied by connection to a common grid, great care has to be observed when determining the electricity generation technologies relevant for the assessment. This work addresses relevant method consideration and discusses the applicability of available Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data for electricity supply. A number of methods are presented with guidance to their applicability to different research questions. The importance of the 'cause-impact-effect' connection when comparing the emissions from EVs with those from conventional tail-pipe vehicles is also discussed. The work
