Abstract
For the past 20 years, railway control systems have gradually migrated from hardwired control/indication panel based to the Video Display Unit (VDU) based computerized control with the popularity of setting up totally integrated control system for complex mission critical applications. Design of the computer screen Man Machine Interface (MMI) has triggered much debate in various such applications, including railways, as it is of significant importance to the effective and efficient operation of the systems concerned. One of the key aspects of the MMI design is to effectively manage all the alarms generated from the diagnostic facilities, both on-line and off-line, and MMI design becomes one of the critical design e
