Abstract
Tow and turning manoeuvring characteristics of a fishing vessel K.S. Varyani Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, James Watt Building, University of ABSTRACT The author looks into the hauling characteristics of a Fishing Vessel by towing it from five different points between amidships and fore end along the side of the vessel. Experimental investigation is carried out for two different tow line lengths and three different velocities, to study the variation of the tow rope angle and yaw with respect to time. Records have also been made of the load acting on the line with respect to time for different tow line lengths and velocity of the vessel. The author then goes on to show the turning characteristics of a Fishing Vessel. A detailed FLOW CHART of the program MAYA85 and MAYA92 is also presented for the turning characteristics of the vessel incorporating recent research findings of hydrodynamic forces acting on vessel, rudder and propeller respectively.
