Abstract
For panel methods calculating free surface flows using a Kelvin source dis- tribution, integration of the wave-like term of the Kelvin Green function remains a difficult problem due to the highly oscillatory character of the in- tegrand. In this paper it is shown that contour integration may be used to transform the integral to one which is much better behaved. This technique has great benefits when the evaluation point lies on or near the waterplane. The technique can also be extended to the case in which the Kelvin Green function is integrated over a planar panel. The critical case occurs when both the panel and the evaluation point lie on the free surface and the evaluation point is directly behind the panel.
