Abstract
Evaluating external transport costs of noise in an Italian region: the case of Umbria F. Cotana ^ & E. Marcucci ® (^Department of Industrial Engineering, Perugia University, Italy (^Institute of Economic Sciences, Urbino University, Italy Abstract The paper provides an evaluation of the external costs of noise generated by the different transport means for Umbria. The paper provides the results of an investigation that was conducted as part of the tasks assigned to the Technical Scientific Committee for the implementation of the Regional Transport Plan of Umbria. The paper focuses on the specific characterising aspects of the external cost of noise. The different methods of evaluating the external costs imposed by noise are described and the pros and cons comparatively evaluated. The data used for estimation derive from a field research conducted to define a noise abatement plan. The field research produced data on acoustic emissions for single vehicles, traffic flo
