Abstract
After a very long period of strict regulation of the taxi industry in almost all countries, at the beginning of the eighties, some North American cities initiated deregulatory processes but, in general, with unsatisfactory results. More recently, the question of liberalising the taxi market has acquired renovated interests and different countries have experimented deregulation, although, again, with an outcome well below expectations.
