Abstract
An optimal arrangement method for base- isolated devices using a genetic algorithm Y. Sato, M. Funahashi and S. Tamori Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Shinshu University, Japan Abstract The design of a base-isolated structure should satisfy various design conditions with respect to the base-isolated layer. Using existing methods, designing a structure with a complicated planar shape is extremely time-consuming. The purpose of the present study is to determine the optimal arrangement of base isolators using a genetic algorithm. The arrangement is evaluated with respect to: (1) the eccentric factor of the base-isolated layer, (2) the vertical load on each isolator, (3) the natural period of the base-isolated layer, (4) the damping factor of the base-isolated layer, and (5) the maximum response acceleration of the upper structure. The proposed method of analysis is applied to an actual designed structure to optimize the arrangement of the base isolators. Evaluatio
