Abstract
The deterioration of asphalt pavements and airport runways is one of the most serious problems concerned with materials engineering, transport engineering and transportation in general. Usually, this is due to the lack of knowledge or even to the lack of commitment, for maintaining such structures. When failure occurs in an airport runway or in an asphalt pavement, reconstruction is expensive. Therefore, cost-effective ways must be suggested, in order to see how badly deteriorated the investigated structure is. One of these cost-effective ways is the infrared thermography technique. This technique is used successfully in the detection of cracks, surface voids and other anomalies appearing from the ageing of such materials. In this research work,
