Abstract
Fuse inserts have been developed for seismic applications. These are high quality steel inserts with a tightly controlled yield strength. They provide a guaranteed yield point at a prescribed location, or a number of locations, by replacing reinforcing bars which have very high levels of random variations in yield strength. In this paper, work undertaken on testing of flexural reinforced concrete members with inserts is briefly presented. The tests comprise beam-column members with an axial load level of 10% of the capacity and varying displacement-controlled transverse loading. Inserts are placed at one or two locations
