Abstract
The dynamic response of earthquake excited friction damped braced shear frames equipped with secondary structures is studied numerically. Various elastic and inelastic structural properties are considered. Displacement response spectra of shear frames as well as floor response spectra are generated for various primary to secondary mass ratios. Also spectra of the standard deviation of primary and secondary displacements are computed. Results, derived by the proposed method, are set in contrast to those derived by decoupled analyses to estimate their capability with respect to hysteretic structural behavior. 1 Introduction Since the last decade friction damped braced frames (FDBF) are used for aseismic design of buildings placed in an earthquake environment.
