Abstract
The development of complex structronic (structures + electronic) systems requires efficient and reliable tools for numerical simulations. The finite element method is a powerful and very popular numerical technique which is used in a wide range of engineering applications and serves also an excellent basis for the analysis of adaptive structures. In the paper a finite element based design tool for the modelling and analysis of structronic systems including piezoelectric materials is introduced. The basic idea consists in extension of an existing finite element code by addition of multifield ID, 2D and 3D finite elements. The theoretical basis of the new elements is described. Some examples demonstrate the capabilities of the exte
