Abstract

Shocks in general and impact as a special case are mainly described as suddenly applied forces or disturbances that last for a very short time. The velocity of such action will cause free vibrations, due to starting conditions alone, to the structural element the amplitude of which is reduced by time. In this paper the modified finite integral method is used as a numerical technique to solve for the response of free vibration of damped systems with different parameters. The initial conditions used in this study are zero displacement and prescribed velocity, and the result of maximum nodal point displacement in each case, which is the main factor to determine, is compared with that corresponding analytical value.
