Abstract
The paper describes a video monitoring programme on an actual explosive demolition event, in which interior views of a collapsing storey were obtained. This exercise demonstrated the extent and the distribution of shear distortions across a typical floor. In addition, the paper outlines a calculation method for the motion prediction of a rigid block simulating the upper storeys of a building under collapse, in a mode which involves limited toppling coupled with the vertical fall. The proposed analysis involves very few degrees of freedom.
