Abstract
A comparative study of litter and waste pollution in the Spanish coast as measured during the Coastwatch Europe Project from 1993 to 1995 is carried out, giving an overview of the general state and evolution of the coastline during the last few years. Measurements of a series of large waste objects, as well as small litter items sorted by function and/or by material, are analysed. Detailed information on count of used tyres and different beverage containers is also given. Serious problems and threats to the coastline due to solid waste dumping have been identified,
