Abstract
Progress on the development of new modelling methodologies to simulate coastal and estuarine flows in two-dimensions is presented. First, a generalised Cartesian meshing methodology is developed whereby grids may be generated for two-dimensional multiply-connected regions of arbitrary complexity. The meshing technique is based on a hierarchical quadtree data structure and is also interactive, allowing the user considerable flexibility in the grid cell distribution through mesh refinement techniques.
