Abstract
Performance of framed structures with connection isolation devices S.Y. Hsu, A. Fa&tis Structures Section, Arizona Department of Transportation, Civil Engineering Department, Arizona ABSTRACT A new type of isolation connection consisting of two steel plates interlocked by a single tooth and elastomeric material has been developed and tested at Arizona State University. This connection device can be simulated by the Kelvin- Voigt model. The structure model for isolation connections installed at beam-column connection and bracing element has been developed. In this study, three well-known earthquake motions are used as input ground motions. The effectiveness of these isolation connections (dampers) for unbraced and braced frames is studied numerically by comparing the response of structures equipped with connection devices with those without connection devices. INTRODUCTION Recent earthquakes have shown the importance of energy dissipation in protecting the main structura
