Abstract
Input seismic motions for use in the structural response analysis H. Hao School of Civil and Structural Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Nanyang Ave., 2263 Singapore ABSTRACT This paper presents a numerical method to calculate the far field seismic ground motion time histories for use in the structural response analysis. It first uses the stochastic method to simulate base rock motions. The statistical seismic motion attenuation laws are used to obtain the control parameters for the simulation. The local layered soft soil site amplification effects are considered by using the deterministic wave propagation method. The dynamic soil nonlinear properties are also included in the calculation by using the effective strain method. At the local soft soil site, the simulated base rock motions are assumed to be either shear waves or the combined shear and surface waves. The ground motion time
