An associated elasto-plastic liquefaction model A. Anandarajah Department of Civil Engineering, The Johns Hopkins University Baltimore, Maryland 21218, ABSTRACT An elasto-plastic constitutive model capable of describing the liquefac- tion behavior of granular materials under cyclic loading is presented. The model employs associated flow rule, but different procedures are employed in modeling the behavior during loading and stress reversal. The model is shown to simulate the laboratory liquefaction behavior of normally and overconsolidated sands satisfactorily. INTRODUCTION Liquefaction of sands has caused catastrophic failures of structures during earthquakes.
