Abstract
To retard the deterioration of porous natural stones, new classes of cold curing polymer products have been developed. The presence of salts can reduce the long-term durability of the products. A test concept is presented which allowes to estimate the long-term durability of polymer impregnation materials in the case of salt contamination. First tests are carried out with Ebenheider Sand- stone, contaminated with sodium chloride or gypsum and impregnated with two polyurethan-based products (one hydrophobic, one not). Results are given and discussed in detail. It turns out that the test concept allows to estimate critical salt concentrations for impregnation. 1 Introduction To retard the deterioration of porous natural stones, new classes of cold curing polymer products have been developed. They build up a protective microlayer on the inn
