Abstract
The paper concerns experimental investigations of dynamics of a rectangular plate loaded with impact pressure forces resulting from growing surface water waves. In experiments, a rigid horizontal plate was suspended elastically in a hydraulic flume over the still water level. The gap between the plate and the water allowed waves of moderate amplitude to pass under the plate without any touch effect. In order to obtain the impact effect, additional rigid vertical plate was installed in the flume, just in the place of the horizontal plate. These two plates formed a kind of corner with a horizontal roof placed at a chosen distance from the piston-type wavemaker. The wavemaker and the vertical wall formed rectangular basin of water for wh
